That's Matt and Megan in Macomb, Michigan!
Call Day was yesterday and we found out that Matt is the future Associate Pastor of Outreach and Assimilation at St. Peter Lutheran Church and School in Macomb, MI.
Call Day is nothing short of exhausting and overwhelming. A day that is so eagerly anticipated for such a long time culminating in the discovery of our newest destination. I can't even begin to describe all the feelings felt yesterday. Unease. Joy. Sadness. Excitement. Like a teeter-totter of emotions.
We were privileged to meet our to-be Senior Pastor and his wife. They greeted us with a goodie basket of Michigan/Detroit specific items. To name a few... Morley chocolate bars, Vernors ginger soda, Peninsula Cellars wine, Sanders hot fudge, Sleeping Bear Farms honey, and Better Made Special pretzles, a Redwings winter hat, and some Tigers socks. (The Cardinals fan in me cringes at that last item....)
After the service we met with our District President and all the vicars- and pastors-to-be that are going to the Michigan district. We were blessed with more economy-stimulating Michigan goods from the district office. Including but not limited to a map of MI, a travel book highlighting all the state has to offer, more Vernors ginger soda (must be a popular item!), some dried cherries, BBQ sauce, and some more honey.
We feel so welcomed and loved already!
Thank you to all our family who came to celebrate the day with us! And all of you who followed along at home too! We really appreciate your love and support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you to all who have kept us in your prayers. Please continue praying--Matt hasn't graduated yet!
If you want to check out the church we will soon call home, here's their website: http://www.splcs.com/today.htm .
It's a big church! Matt will be the 4th pastor on staff. There are 5 services per weekend. There's a big grade school and a Lutheran high school really close (maybe some possibilities for Megan??). We are excited and can't wait to find out more about our church!

Megan we are so happy for you guys. I watched a little bit of the service the other night and it was very nice. As for Vernor's ginger soda that is big back there. I remember having it when I would visit my grandparents in Michigan.
I pray that this move is an easy move for you guys!!
Welcome to St. Peter Lutheran, Macomb! Looking forward to meeting you both! Next year, we will have an 8th grader @ St. Peter and a Junior next door @ Luthern High North. I direct the student handbell groups @ St. Peter, and thoroughly enjoy it! My husband works @ GM (he survived all the layoffs the last 2 years - we are indeed blessed).
Vernors Ginger Ale is very good! Nothing else is quite like it :-)
If you have other questions, feel free to contact me @ rgahlau@homail.com, or you can find be on FB.
Again, looking forward to meeting you both! May God continue to quide and bless you as you finish classes and prepare to move here!
God's blessings,
Jodi Gahlau
PS - Please pass on hugs to Josh Davis :-)
Megan,
After reading Bill McClellan's column about call night at Concordia, I just had to check your blog to find out your big news. Good luck in Michigan but stay a Cards fan. Also, I'm hoping that you will end up back in a math classroom:)
Give Matt my congrats on his upcoming graduation.
Thanks Michelle! I haven't given Vernor's a try yet, but I'll let you know if it's any good. I hope this move is easy for us too!
Jodi-Wow, you found me fast! I'm looking forward to meeting you and your family. Matt and I are excited for what lies ahead of us at St. Peter.
Mrs. L!! I am terrible at keeping in touch, so I'm glad you are taking the initiative here. :)
I read Bill's column too--some of our friends were among those interviewed. And don't worry, you can take the girl out of St. Louis, but you can't take St. Louis out of the girl. Especially when it comes to the Cardinals! I'm hoping to get back into teaching too. I'll let you know how it goes.
