June was our last full month in California--and we tried to squeeze everything in before we leave.
Megan stayed pretty busy the first week of June with some end-of-the year subbing, but the school year was officially done by the second week of June--which means that Megan is officially back to being unemployed. (Please keep Megan's job search in your prayers!)
T-ball is also all wrapped up! We had fun watching the girls develop their softball skills throughout the season, but we finally got our weekends back!
Another ending for Matt was his last Tuesday night Adult Education class. His last series was on the six chief parts of the catechism and some Luther history. We ended the study with the Luther movie. Matt really enjoys teaching and found that preparing for this class was one of his favorite parts of his job.
We watched Jenna's preschool graduation.
Matt had his last vicar-sponsored event, a family movie night. We fired up the popcorn machine and watched Bolt.
We helped some friends move across town. They moved into a third floor apartment--lots of stairs! Thankfully when we move we are going to be in a first-floor unit!
We spent some time with our friends Jessica and Leiko--one weekend we went out to eat some authentic Ethiopian food and drove up Mount Hamilton to the Lick Observatory. Another weekend we went down to Hearst Castle, drove the scenic Highway 1 through Big Sur, and caught a beautiful sunset in Carmel.
One of Megan's former colleagues from Metro East Lutheran High School came to visit for a few days. We went to San Francisco and in addition to some of our favorite places (Coit Tower, Fort Point, Pier 39, and Ghirardelli's) we also visited some new places (Chrissy Field, The Exploratorium, and The Stinking Rose for dinner).
We've been blessed to share meals with several families from church as we start to say our good-byes to our Mount Olive family.
Matt preached at a 50th wedding anniversary renewal of vows. He also preached for Father's Day--for the third year in a row.
Matt also enjoyed playing in the Monday night slow pitch softball games with the church league team.
We helped decorate and construct the set for VBS. Megan was in charge of painting the backdrop. (Considering she's never taken any art classes, it turned out okay!)
Our church gave us a farewell luncheon on our second-to-last Sunday following the three services where we were able to share with the congregation our reflections on our year through an exit interview. Mount Olive has blessed us in so many ways this year, and we were especially reminded of that on this day. This past year has been a great year and we will miss our friends at Mount Olive!
