Matt's parents drove around the lake to visit us over Labor Day weekend. Little did we know that Labor Day weekend is when the Romeo Peach Festival is. Now, for a festival all about peaches, I do have to say that I was a little disappointed about the lack of peach-related fare. We had to hunt down a little booth that sold pies and peach butter and peach salsa. But we did enjoy the Beers From Around The World and the time we had with Mom and Dad Baye.
We enjoyed a crisp fall apple picking afternoon with the Kaspers. Did you know Matt had never been apple picking at an orchard before? I've been so many times, but I guess it was never with him. We enjoyed the wagon ride and the hunt for the best looking apples. And now we have a half bushel of delicious Michigan apples.
Did you know that the fastest way from Macomb, MI to Buffalo, NY is through Canada? We made sure we got our enhanced driver's licenses when we moved here so we could drive through Canada to visit our good friends in New York.
We took a quick weekend trip, travelling through Canada, and spent some time with the Hartkes. A couple firsts--Matt's first time out of the country, my first time to New York, and the first time for both of us to be in Canada! Next time our trip isn't so rushed we will take time to visit the wine country around St. Catherines, Ontario and visit Niagara Falls. We drove right past both on our way to New York. It was so good to see all of the Hartkes and to meet baby Jacob for the first time! The girls were so excited we were coming that they made us the sweetest presents and literally clung to our legs and tried blocking the doors on our way out. We will have to come back to visit more often--since it's only 4 1/2 hours away.
