2006 Christmas Letter
We hope that this letter finds you enjoying your Christmas celebration.
2006 has been a very eventful year for us! In January, Megan left for Texas to do her student teaching at Lutheran High School of Dallas for the spring semester, and Matt finished up his class work at Concordia Wisconsin. Megan came back to the Midwest just in time for commencement, and we graduated together in May.
After commencement came a whirlwind tour of last-minute preparations for our wedding in July, which included finding a place to live in St. Louis. We were blessed to find an apartment only about a mile from Concordia Seminary, where Matt began his class work in the fall. We had a beautiful wedding on a muggy day in Red Bud, IL, and we were fortunate to be able to celebrate with friends and family from Green Bay the next week.
After our honeymoon, we rushed back to St. Louis and Megan began her preparations for her first year as a called and commissioned teacher of the church, teaching Algebra I and II at Metro East Lutheran High in Edwardsville, IL. Since then, we have welcomed both a nephew, Evan, and a godson, Isaac, into our family.
Matt is enjoying his first year at Concordia Seminary. The classes and the faculty that teach them have already begun to transform the way he thinks theologically, and he is thankful for the opportunity to continue his education toward the ministry.
We have also been assigned to a wonderful fieldwork church, St. Paul Lutheran in Wood River, IL (where Matt gets “on the job” experience and mentoring). Matt could not ask for a better pastor to learn from, and the entire church family has embraced both of us—some of Megan’s fellow faculty and staff from Metro East LHS also are members at St. Paul, so we have lots of familiar faces around us. When he is not studying, Matt enjoys participating in the extensive intramural sports schedule that the seminary offers.
Megan is wrapping up her first semester of teaching at Metro East. She has enjoyed her time there so far. The staff has been wonderful, and the kids are good. Megan took a walk on the adventurous side of things and agreed to be assistant coach of the girls’ and boys’ tennis teams—a sport that she herself had never played before. Such is life for a Lutheran high school teacher! Although she is not yet ready to take on the Williams sisters, she has learned a lot about the game, and she enjoyed working with the girls in the fall (boys play in the spring).
We are looking forward to seeing many of you over the Christmas holiday. We pray that you will be blessed by your celebration of God’s gift to us all at Bethlehem—Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. May his presence bring you joy in the coming year.
